Dr Paddy Jones

Associate Dentist

BDS (N’cle) GDC Number: 60515

Dr Paddy Jones is one of the longest-standing members of the Marton Dental Practice team, bringing with him around four decades of experience in dentistry. After qualifying from Newcastle Dental School in 1985, Paddy has spent his entire career caring for patients in Middlesbrough and the wider Teesside community.

Over the years, he has worked in several local practices and has built an exceptionally loyal patient base—many of whom have followed him from practice to practice and have been under his care for most of their lives. Paddy still sees patients today whom he first treated in 1985, the year he qualified and began working in Middlesbrough. That continuity of care, and the trust it represents, is something he is particularly proud of.

Marton Dental Practice and Practice Development

Marton Dental Practice was originally established in 1967. Paddy purchased the existing, run-down practice in 2009 when it was based in nearby premises. Rather than simply continuing as it was, he set about redesigning and rebuilding it from the ground up.

Paddy personally helped to design and develop the current purpose-built Marton Dental Practice, creating a modern, spacious, and patient-focused environment. He then led the relocation of the practice into its new home, transforming it into the high-quality clinical setting patients know today.

He owned and led the practice until handing over to Omar, with whom he has continued to work closely ever since. After 40 years in the profession, we think it’s safe to say he’s getting the hang of it.

Clinical Experience and Innovation

Across his career, Paddy has held many clinical posts and roles, gaining broad experience in general and restorative dentistry. However, he particularly excels in oral surgery—especially the removal of difficult teeth with minimal trauma and discomfort for the patient. His gentle, precise technique means extractions that many people expect to be stressful or painful are often far more straightforward and comfortable than they imagined.

Paddy has taught multiple dentists his surgical techniques and the use of his bespoke instruments and equipment—including Omar and other colleagues—helping to raise standards of care well beyond his own surgery.

Day to day, he is highly skilled at:

  • Managing long-term patients and complex dental histories.
  • Providing high-quality, durable restorative work.
  • Performing complex extractions and oral surgery with minimal trauma.
  • Offering practical, honest advice based on decades of real-world clinical experience.

Beyond clinical work, Paddy is also deeply involved in dental innovation. He is a design consultant for the dental equipment company Directa Dental and has personally designed and invented multiple dental instruments and pieces of equipment used by dentists around the world. His engineering mindset and attention to detail feed directly back into his clinical work—always looking for smarter, safer, and more efficient ways to treat patients.

Outside the Surgery

Outside of dentistry, Paddy is a passionate cyclist and classic car enthusiast. He regularly competes in classic rallies and enjoys mountaineering and long-distance walking. He’s also a race engineer and mechanic for his eldest son, who shares his love of motorsport.

Whether he’s fine-tuning a rally car, refining a new dental instrument, or carefully removing a difficult tooth, Paddy brings the same combination of precision, problem-solving, and quiet determination that his patients have relied on for nearly 40 years.

If you’re looking for a highly experienced, down-to-earth dentist with a long track record of looking after families across generations, you’ll be in very safe hands with Dr Paddy Jones.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often should I get a check-up?

At Marton Dental Practice, regular dental check-ups are essential for maintaining good oral health. While the exact frequency may vary depending on individual needs, routine dentist and hygienist visits are part of your preventive armour against dental infections and gum disease. For most people, check-ups are recommended every 6 months, though patients at higher risk may be advised to come in more frequently.

Why are my teeth sensitive?

Tooth sensitivity can be caused by several factors, including:

  • Dental infections or decay reaching the inner layers of the tooth.
  • Gum recession exposing the tooth’s dentine (a weaker layer than enamel).
  • Cracked or chipped teeth.
  • Worn fillings or enamel erosion.

If you’re experiencing sensitivity, it could also be a sign of underlying gum disease or the early stages of a dental infection that may require attention, such as a root canal treatment if left untreated.

How do I whiten my teeth?

Marton Dental Practice offers professional at-home teeth whitening using White Dental Beauty products. This treatment involves:

  • Custom-made whitening trays based on 3D digital scans.
  • Dentist-supervised application of a safe, vegan-friendly whitening gel.
  • Wear time as short as 30 minutes per day.

The process is non-invasive, gentle on sensitive teeth, and results can last for years with good maintenance.

Why are my gums bleeding?

Bleeding gums are often a sign of gum disease, caused by the build-up of plaque and tartar. If left untreated, this can progress to serious gum damage, tooth loss, and even systemic health issues like cardiovascular disease.

Marton Dental’s hygienists offer:

  • Scale and polish treatments to remove plaque.
  • Deep cleaning below the gumline to close gum pockets.
  • Tailored advice for ongoing gum maintenance.

Early treatment can reverse gum disease and prevent more invasive procedures later.
