Dr Ifrah Alam

Dr Ifrah Alam

Associate Dentist | Advanced Endodontic (Root Canal) Practitioner

BDS (B’ham) | MSc in Endodontics GDC Number: 271094

Dr Ifrah Alam joined Marton Dental Practice in 2018, shortly after graduating from the University of Birmingham in 2017 with Merit. Since then, she has become a highly valued member of the team, known for her calm manner, meticulous approach, and strong focus on saving teeth wherever possible.

From early in her career, Ifrah developed a particular passion for endodontics (root canal treatment). To build truly specialist-level skills, she undertook a rigorous three-year MSc in Endodontics at UCLAN in Preston—travelling regularly between Teesside and Preston over that entire period, while continuing to work in practice and balance life with a young family.

She completed this prestigious programme with Distinction, an achievement that is rare and reflects her exceptional knowledge, technical ability, and dedication to the field. This advanced training places her among the most highly qualified clinicians in the region for root canal treatment.

Patients and referring dentists alike trust Ifrah for her ability to manage complex root canal and re-root canal cases, often saving teeth that might otherwise have been extracted.

Clinical Interests

  • Advanced root canal treatment and re-root canal treatment.
  • General restorative and preventive dentistry.
  • Tooth preservation and long-term treatment planning.
  • Supporting anxious patients and helping them feel at ease in the dental chair.

Ifrah’s goal is always to relieve pain, save teeth wherever possible, and provide stable, long-term outcomes. Her combination of postgraduate expertise and gentle, reassuring chairside manner makes her an excellent choice for patients seeking both high-quality routine care and advanced root canal treatment.

Outside the Surgery

Outside of work, Ifrah enjoys unwinding in the garden, getting outdoors for walks, and spending quality time with her family. Balancing advanced study, clinical work, and family life has shaped her into a patient, empathetic clinician who understands the realities of busy modern life—and works with patients to find treatment plans that fit.

If you’ve been told you might need a root canal—or are simply looking for a careful, understanding dentist for your regular care—Dr Ifrah Alam offers specialist-level skill with a genuinely kind, supportive approach.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often should I get a check-up?

At Marton Dental Practice, regular dental check-ups are essential for maintaining good oral health. While the exact frequency may vary depending on individual needs, routine dentist and hygienist visits are part of your preventive armour against dental infections and gum disease. For most people, check-ups are recommended every 6 months, though patients at higher risk may be advised to come in more frequently.

Why are my teeth sensitive?

Tooth sensitivity can be caused by several factors, including:

  • Dental infections or decay reaching the inner layers of the tooth.
  • Gum recession exposing the tooth’s dentine (a weaker layer than enamel).
  • Cracked or chipped teeth.
  • Worn fillings or enamel erosion.

If you’re experiencing sensitivity, it could also be a sign of underlying gum disease or the early stages of a dental infection that may require attention, such as a root canal treatment if left untreated.

How do I whiten my teeth?

Marton Dental Practice offers professional at-home teeth whitening using White Dental Beauty products. This treatment involves:

  • Custom-made whitening trays based on 3D digital scans.
  • Dentist-supervised application of a safe, vegan-friendly whitening gel.
  • Wear time as short as 30 minutes per day.

The process is non-invasive, gentle on sensitive teeth, and results can last for years with good maintenance.

Why are my gums bleeding?

Bleeding gums are often a sign of gum disease, caused by the build-up of plaque and tartar. If left untreated, this can progress to serious gum damage, tooth loss, and even systemic health issues like cardiovascular disease.

Marton Dental’s hygienists offer:

  • Scale and polish treatments to remove plaque.
  • Deep cleaning below the gumline to close gum pockets.
  • Tailored advice for ongoing gum maintenance.

Early treatment can reverse gum disease and prevent more invasive procedures later.
