Rachel Nichols

Assistant Manager

NVQ L3 Oral Health Care: Dental Nursing & Independent Assessment (City & Guilds 2002) GDC Number: 145565

Rachel Nichols is one of the longest-standing members of our team, having been part of Marton Dental Practice since 2000. Over more than two decades, she has grown with the practice, starting her career as a Dental Nurse before progressing to her current role as Assistant Manager.

With her wealth of experience, Rachel brings a calm, organised presence to the front desk and behind the scenes. She’s often one of the first people patients speak to on the phone or see when they arrive, and her warm, friendly manner helps put people at ease straight away. Many of our long-standing patients know Rachel by name and trust her to help with everything from booking appointments to answering questions about their care.

Her combination of clinical background and front-of-house experience means she understands both the patient journey and the needs of the clinical team, making her a key link in keeping the practice running smoothly.

Outside the Practice

Outside of work, Rachel is a proud mum of two children who keep her happily busy. Her caring, down-to-earth nature extends well beyond the practice, making her an invaluable member of both her family and our team.

Whether she’s welcoming patients at reception, supporting colleagues, or quietly making sure the day runs to plan, Rachel is a big part of what makes Marton Dental Practice feel so friendly and familiar.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often should I get a check-up?

At Marton Dental Practice, regular dental check-ups are essential for maintaining good oral health. While the exact frequency may vary depending on individual needs, routine dentist and hygienist visits are part of your preventive armour against dental infections and gum disease. For most people, check-ups are recommended every 6 months, though patients at higher risk may be advised to come in more frequently.

Why are my teeth sensitive?

Tooth sensitivity can be caused by several factors, including:

  • Dental infections or decay reaching the inner layers of the tooth.
  • Gum recession exposing the tooth’s dentine (a weaker layer than enamel).
  • Cracked or chipped teeth.
  • Worn fillings or enamel erosion.

If you’re experiencing sensitivity, it could also be a sign of underlying gum disease or the early stages of a dental infection that may require attention, such as a root canal treatment if left untreated.

How do I whiten my teeth?

Marton Dental Practice offers professional at-home teeth whitening using White Dental Beauty products. This treatment involves:

  • Custom-made whitening trays based on 3D digital scans.
  • Dentist-supervised application of a safe, vegan-friendly whitening gel.
  • Wear time as short as 30 minutes per day.

The process is non-invasive, gentle on sensitive teeth, and results can last for years with good maintenance.

Why are my gums bleeding?

Bleeding gums are often a sign of gum disease, caused by the build-up of plaque and tartar. If left untreated, this can progress to serious gum damage, tooth loss, and even systemic health issues like cardiovascular disease.

Marton Dental’s hygienists offer:

  • Scale and polish treatments to remove plaque.
  • Deep cleaning below the gumline to close gum pockets.
  • Tailored advice for ongoing gum maintenance.

Early treatment can reverse gum disease and prevent more invasive procedures later.
